“Sidestepping the border between comedy and sci-fi is like climbing the top of a mountain with a few hundred feet of slack” said Jaden Smith.
“I always thought, ‘Sushi denver’ was just the most perfect title for a movie about sushi.”
The title refers to a scene in “Sci-Fi: The Movie,” in which an alien civilization invades a Japanese village.
A scientist and his wife find the village under siege by a small army of aliens, and attempt to escape by parachuting from a nearby UFO.
It was a title that Smith has been waiting for.
After getting the rights to the movie, Smith decided to use the title to represent his own life and to give voice to the character of “Sidi.”
“When I was in the first film I wrote all of the dialogue in Japanese, so I knew exactly what it was like to be a Japanese person in this new world.
I knew how it felt to have Japanese people come into your life and feel like you’re part of their community,” Smith said.
He added that this character was a way to create empathy for Japanese people in the new world he was about to inhabit.
The movie was based on the book “Sonic and Sorrow: A Tale of Science, Love, and the Search for Meaning in the Age of Big Data,” by Stephen Hawking.
The plot involves the alien invasion of the Japanese village, and it follows a scientist and wife as they try to survive the invasion.
Smith said he was initially nervous about the movie but he realized it would work.
“The best part about it is that it’s not just a big sci-Fi movie, it’s a really good movie, and so I was really happy with that,” Smith told Next Big Futures.
“But I think the biggest reason I’m so happy is that I’m also really proud of how the story came together and the fact that it got made at all.”
Smith added that he wanted the story to be about Japanese people and not just the aliens.
“You want to tell a story about a Japanese-American family and a Japanese woman who’s on her own in this alien world and who’s not a perfect person, but who has a really strong heart,” Smith explained.
“And the movie was made to tell that story and to make that family feel like they’re part to the story.
And that’s something I really wanted to do in the movie.”
Smith’s wife, Jessica, is a linguist and she’s a big fan of the book.
She even gave him a copy.
“It was kind of a gift to me, and I couldn’t be happier that I got it,” Smith added.
“He’s my partner in the world and I love him, but I’m really excited about the idea of having him as a partner.”
“Sigi” also stars Mark Wahlberg, Jaden, and Sarah Paulson.
